State Power Investment Corporation’s Lop Nur 100 MW/400 MWh energy storage project is paired with a 400 MW photovoltaic power generation project.

Project Overview

The State Power Investment Corporation’s 100 MW/400 MWh energy storage project is paired with a 400 MW photovoltaic power generation facility, located in the Hotan Prefecture of Xinjiang. The equipment was supplied by Shaanxi Hante Smart Electric Equipment Co., Ltd., and comprises four SFZ20‑100000/110 kV oil‑immersed three‑phase, double‑winding, on‑load tap‑changing step‑up transformers, along with associated grounding transformers, station service transformers, neutral‑point complete sets, and auxiliary equipment. Centered on 110 kV step‑up transmission, the project is tailored to accommodate the intermittent nature of solar generation; its integrated energy storage system enables coordinated operation between solar and storage, ensuring stable grid connection and reliable power supply. It serves as a critical substation‑level infrastructure supporting the large‑scale clean energy base in Hotan, Xinjiang.

Advantages and Features

1. Model and capacity compatibility with photovoltaic applications

• The main transformer selected is an SFZ20-100000/110kV unit, with a capacity of 100,000 kVA, a voltage ratio of 115±8×1.25%/36.5 kV, and a YN,d11 connection group, perfectly meeting the photovoltaic power plant’s requirement to step up its 35 kV output to 110 kV for grid integration.

• Cooling method: ONAF, designed to withstand Xinjiang’s high temperatures, intense solar radiation, and significant diurnal temperature variations in outdoor operating conditions.

2. On-load tap changer + photovoltaic‑storage system with strong adaptability

• Equipped with an on-load tap changer, it enables continuous, stepless voltage regulation online, rapidly responds to fluctuations in photovoltaic output, and is compatible with energy storage system charge–discharge control.

• Equipped with integrated online oil filtration and vacuum accessories to maintain oil quality over the long term, enhancing the equipment’s reliability during continuous operation.

3. High Insulation and High Protection Design

• High- and low-voltage/neutral-point equipment employs dry-type fiberglass-reinforced epoxy‑glass‑fiber porcelain bushings, offering excellent insulation performance, superior resistance to pollution flashover, and strong weatherability, making them well suited to the windy and sandy conditions of Northwest China.

• The fuel tank, radiator, control cabinet, and other components are made of stainless steel, with a guaranteed service life of 20 years, offering corrosion and dust resistance and requiring no maintenance.

4. Fully equipped and delivered in complete condition

• Each main transformer is equipped as standard with a complete set of accessories, including an oil conservator, pressure relief device, winding/oil temperature control system, forced‑air cooling system, terminal box, common‑box busbar, and bushings.

• Transformer oil shall be Karamay No. 45, with an additional 10% of reserve oil in drums and accompanying oil tanks; spare parts and special tools will be delivered together with the goods.

5. Enhancement of Stability and Monitoring

• Equipped with dual controls for winding and oil temperature, a gas relay, and a pressure relief device, providing multi‑layered protection to prevent fault escalation.

• The high‑voltage/neutral‑point bushing‑type CT is configured with a 0.5/5P30 dual winding, ensuring precise separation of metering and protection functions to meet grid dispatch and operation‑and‑maintenance requirements.

6. Integrated Neutral-Point Assembly

• Supplied as a complete set of four 110 kV neutral-point assemblies, including disconnect switches, surge arresters, discharge gaps, current transformers, and steel support structures; delivered as an integrated solution for convenient on-site installation and reliable grounding protection.
